Only two British dreadnoughts were damaged, leaving 23 dreadnoughts and four battlecruisers still able to fight. At the end of the battle, the British still held naval superiority. However, there was a huge impact on the vessels in the battle. Lasting over 36 hours from May 31 to June 1, 1916, it is often considered a German victory because of the number of British lives lost. The Battle of Jutland was the defining naval battle of the First World War.
